i flew to L.A. early in Oct. to buy a 1997 T-595 . I was taking a big chance as i bought it off E-bay and was depending that the seller, a shop, would be fair and honest with me. They picked me up at the bus station and we drove to their shop . Redline Cycles. I went to a gas station and filled up@$3.79 a gallon and drove to Sherman Oaks where a long time friend works. he said he's be busy all day , The temp was 110 deg.'s I ride to the Santa Monica pier and hang out until he got home, around 6 p.m. I got to the pier and parked right there , no problem.... I walked on the beach for a time then decided it was food and BEER time so I went to BUBBA GUMP HRIMP HOUSE. Had a 32 oz. brew of some kind a a huge Shrimp plate and tried to flirt with the bar made but she was real busy and I'm not 22 years old. So iI finished and decided to walk the beach again and get some pictures. After a bit I decided to go back for more BEER!!! well the new barmade , Michelle, if your ever there ,is a knock down beauty and super nice. My friend called and (like I was to find out all the next day) gave me incoherent directions to get to his house. Michelle drew me a map and sent me onmy way , I got there in 5 minuets. Thanks Michelle So I spent the night and had a long breakfast befor setting out for the Planes of fame air museum in Cino , about an hour East of L.A. If you've never been to L.A. don't go...... there was bumper to bumper traffic both going to L.A. and LEAVING....this kept up for over an hour. I realized that I had not seen a sign for Chino and was lost. Pulled into a Popeyes chicken place had lunch then approached a couple in the parking lot and ask how to get to Chino.....now i'm not sure but i think the big sport out there is to get anyone lost , LOSTER..... I tried to follow their advise but was lost again in 10 minuets going back West towards L.A.. so iI pulled into a gas station and bought a current map... Still confused I approached a man in his 60's and asked if he could help me. He kind'a was put off but when I told him I was headed to the air museum he totally changed his attitued and showed me on the map where I was and how to proceed.....he must have been a Vet and liked aircraft too for when I thanked him and turned to leave he said ," you'll really like it , it's awsome ", and waved good by. Well 30 min's later I was in Chino but west of where i should have found the museum , so again I stop at a gas station and ask the cute chicano girl behind the counter if she could direct me. She had never heard of it ! so back outside to look at the map again when in walks a couple of telephone repair men and I ask them , they know and tell me to go back EAST.... for a mile , turn South and look for a road that starts with an M.......OH GOD , ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE ME NUTS? However in 5 min's I'm there . I ark the bike and wander the 5 hangers taking lots of pictures to show my aviation pals..... then as i'm going to the bone yard for more pix I meet a flying legend...STEVE HINTON....just back from the Reno air races . I tell him a friend of mine Tom Edwards had raced in the bi-wing class and came in 4 th...seperated from 1st by .698 of a second. He was very friendly and I was so shook up I forgot to get his Autograph....and I collect them ! I decide I'd better get the show on the road and Get to Barstow or further as i had 2 1'2 days to go to get back to Boulder. I put 5 hr's on and after dark pulled into some small town who's name iI don't remember as my ass is on fire..... the worst thing on the 1997-2002 daytonas and speed trip....is you cannot sit on them for more then 10 minuets with out being tourtured.....o.k. may 30 tops! seriously the seat on any cycle is the most important item...think about it! Next day I'm off early as i have to get accross Utah as fast as possiable , I fill up and blaze , ..I make it to Salinis Salina? , with a shirt and underwhear taped to the seat to make it barable but no luck. It's hard to enjoy the ride because my butt feels like it's been tazered. I do 300 miles at 100+mph without stopping........ there IS no place to stop until you get to Green river. That part of I-70 is some of the most beautiful desolation I've ever seen........by this time I stone in love with this Triumph, just don't break , please!!!!!! I make it to a motel in Green River and get another room . It's still high 90's and the second bad thing about the T-595 is it's bloody hot between the legs ! Next day I finish up through Fruita, Gand Junction Lovland pass and pull into Idaho springs with fog and 40 degrees and windy.......finally make it back to Boulder and go to the PUB TO SHOW OFF THE NEW BIKE AND DRINK MORE BEER..MANY WERE BOUGHT BY FRIENDS THAT HAD BET THE BIKE WOULD BREAK AND THEY'D NEVER SEE ME AGAIN....i think some were mad i made it .......I now have 4 triumphs. a 1996 Super III Daytona, Two TT -600's both 2000's , aand Black beauty 1997 T-595....looking for another Super III...thats my story and I'm sticken' to it......Ride Safe.
